Paintings

The work has evolved from both an interest in surface pattern and also painting as a subject matter in its own right. Recent paintings take inspiration from the urban environment, torn billboards, layered graffiti, scratched metal surfaces, temporary hoardings and other overlooked details found around the city. These fragments become starting points for compositions, repeated motifs, and abstract forms. Running through the work is an interest in regeneration, gentrification, and the changing surfaces of urban spaces.

His process involves layering paint, tearing and reapplying acrylic paint skins and combining printed and painted imagery through sublimation techniques. Drawing from an archive of print swatches and studio materials, surfaces and patterns are continually reused, disrupted and reassembled.
