John’s work often begins with collage, a medium that offers the freedom to compose, rearrange and easily rethink ideas. This fluidity is a major source of its appeal and frequently serves as the foundation for his pattern design work, which is later developed and digitised. The wide range of surfaces, ready-made colours and found materials that can be integrated into the collage process further enrich his creative approach.
He has produced work with Birmingham Collage Collective and collaborated with collage artist Adam Wynn to create a series of three-dimensional collages. These pieces are exchanged back and forth between the two artists, evolving through shared intuition until both feel the work has reached its natural completion.
